AUSTRALASIAN junior boys' bow hunting champion Rowan Griffith has until October to decide if he will represent Australia at the world titles next year.

He's been invited to shoot for the national side next August. The problem is that the championship will be in the African country of Namibia and it is going to cost him more than $5000 to make the trip.

"I'll get around $1000 funding from the Australian Federation, but I'd have to make up the rest myself," the 16-year-old Year 11 Taree High student said.

He wants to go.

"It'd be interesting," he said.

But he says his parents have some reservations. The fact that he'll be off to Africa leading into the start of the HSC is another concern.

Rowan said he'll have to negotiate with his parents in the next couple of weeks before a final decision is made.
